Connecting People. Building Community. Supporting Wellbeing.
Befriending Champions Programme
Befriending offers companionship to people who may be feeling lonely or disconnected. It helps build confidence, improve self-esteem, and gently support individuals to reconnect with their local community.
At Langworthy Cornerstone Association (LCA), we believe that no one in our community should ever feel alone. Our Befriending Champions Programme is an inclusive community initiative designed to reduce social isolation and support the health and wellbeing of residents across Salford. The service is ideal for anyone who is experiencing, or at risk of, social isolation or loneliness, and would benefit from reliable, one-to-one support with a trained Volunteer Befriender.
Whether you are looking for companionship, someone to talk to, or an opportunity to give back as a volunteer, our programme helps build meaningful connections that make a real difference.
hOW IT WORKS
- Clients are matched with a befriender for up to 8 weeks of support.
- Support can include informal coffee and chat meet-ups or attending Local groups together
- All support is safe, consistent, and person-centred, guided by clear policies and ongoing monitoring
- All Volunteer Befrienders complete DBS checks, mandatory training, and a full induction
- The programme is overseen by a dedicated Befriending Programme Manager, who provides guidance and support to both clients and Volunteers throughout
Why It Matters
Loneliness and social isolation can have a serious impact on mental and physical health. Our Befriending Champions help bridge that gap by offering friendly conversation, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging.
Every conversation, every cup of tea, and every shared smile truly makes a difference.
