Help people in our community build their digital confidence

Technology is now part of everyday life – from accessing services and managing appointments to staying connected with family and friends.

But not everyone feels confident using digital technology.

Langworthy Cornerstone is developing a new Digital Café and ICT space to help local residents access technology, learn new skills and feel more confident navigating the digital world.

To help us make this happen, we’re looking for 5–6 volunteers to become our first Digital Champions.

What is a Digital Champion?

Digital Champions are friendly, supportive volunteers who help people develop confidence with everyday technology.

You might support someone to:

• Use a laptop, tablet or smartphone
• Navigate websites and online services
• Set up or use an email account
• Complete online forms
• Access information and services online
• Use video calls and stay connected with others
• Understand basic digital safety
• Build confidence using technology independently

You don’t need to know everything. Sometimes the most valuable thing you can offer is patience, encouragement and a willingness to help someone have a go.

What support will you receive?

Our partner will support the recruitment and training of our first group of Digital Champions.

Volunteers will receive:

Digital Champions training
You’ll receive training to help you confidently support local residents with their digital needs.

Travel and meal expenses
Volunteer expenses for travel and meals during support sessions will be covered.

Enhanced DBS check
The cost of your Enhanced DBS check will be covered.

A supportive environment
You’ll be part of a small initial cohort of Digital Champions, giving you the opportunity to learn alongside other volunteers and build confidence together.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for people who are:

• Friendly and approachable
• Patient and willing to listen
• Comfortable using everyday digital technology
• Good at explaining things simply
• Happy supporting people who may have little or no digital confidence
• Reliable and willing to commit to the training and volunteering opportunity
• Passionate about supporting their local community

You do not need to be an IT professional or have formal teaching experience.
