About the role
As a Walk Leader Volunteer, you will support local community members to take part in regular, welcoming walking activities that promote physical health, mental wellbeing, and social connection. You will help create a safe, inclusive, and friendly environment where participants feel supported to be active at their own pace.
You will play an important role in encouraging people to engage with their local community, build confidence, and improve their overall wellbeing through gentle, accessible walking activities.
What’s involved?
- Supporting a group walk on the Walk, Talk, Repeat project, ensuring all participants feel welcomed and included
- Encouraging participation and creating a friendly, non-judgemental atmosphere to foster a supportive community of walkers
- Supporting participants to walk at a pace and distance that suits their abilities and promotes health and wellbeing
- Providing basic information about the walk route and ensuring safety throughout the walk
- Collecting attendance information and feedback so we can understand and celebrate the impact of the walks
- Following Langworthy Cornerstone policies and procedures to ensure all activities are safe, inclusive, and welcoming
Our Walk Leader Volunteers are:
- Friendly, approachable, and confident engaging with groups of people
- Supportive, encouraging, and inclusive
- Reliable and well organised
- Passionate about supporting others to improve their health and wellbeing
- Able to promote a positive and welcoming environment for people of all abilities
Time commitment
- Walks currently take place on Mondays, 10:00–11:00am, so you would need to be available during this time
- Walks typically last around 1 hour, with a small amount of preparation beforehand
- We ask for a commitment to attend regularly to ensure consistency and reliability for participants
What you can expect from us
- A rewarding volunteer experience supporting health and wellbeing in your local community
- Support on the walks from a trained facilitator, with the opportunity to eventually take over the walk or lead your own walks if there is demand
- Ongoing support from a Volunteer Coordinator and experienced staff
- Access to a Volunteer Handbook, training, and all relevant policies and procedures to help you in your role
- Reimbursement of expenses in line with our expenses policy
- A strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do
