BEFRIENDING VOLUNTEER ROLE

The Cornerstone Centre is a large purpose-built Community Anchor and Healthy Living Centre in the heart of Salford, operating as a vibrant community hub which hosts a wide range of services and activities, including a Job Café, Volunteering opportunities, Wellbeing Sessions and Fitness Classes, Seniors’ Groups and Men’s Health Program, Art Exhibitions, and Community Events.

As a Befriending Volunteer, you will provide essential support to local community members, helping them to access activities and provision at Langworthy Cornerstone and the surrounding areas. In this role, you will play an essential part in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals referred to our befriending service. You will support clients over an 8-week period. building rapport to understand what matters to them and connecting them into local community provision to benefit their health and wellbeing.

What’s involved?

  • Support clients referred into the Befriending Programme to access activities/ provision at Langworthy Cornerstone and the surrounding areas
  • Develop a positive rapport with clients over an 8-week period to find out what matters to them and signpost into appropriate activities
  • Collecting information on participants so we can celebrate the difference you make to local people
  • Follow Langworthy Cornerstone policies and procedures to ensure all interactions are welcoming, inclusive and safe

  • Motivated and reliable

Time Commitment

  • This is a flexible role that you can commit around your work commitments and availability
  • You could volunteer for as little as 2 hours per week (one hour liaising with clients and one hour meeting with clients), however the time you spend as a Befriending Volunteer will depend on the interaction between you and the client
  • We request that you commit to a minimum of 8-week blocks to ensure that clients are not changing befrienders and can get the most value from the connection.
